Our idea is to use rain and snow water for the schools' supply water. Solar heat from the side of the school building will produce heat and warm water. Furthermore photovoltaic systems on the roof will provide half the energy needed by the school. The supply water will be saved in cisterns and will be reused for toilet flushing and watering plants. All the investments will amortize after a few years and will greatly reduce the energy costs. Additionally the school will profit from a good reputation.

Our goal is to reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of a school in Switzerland. The present oil based heating solution is inefficient and expensive. Our plan is to replace it with a geothermal energy pump. The pump could be connected to the ventilation system for heating and cooling. Another big step towards a sustainable school would be to replace the neon lighting with LEDs controlled by motion detectors. After only 6 years the investments will be amortized.

Our concept incorporates a smart building automation that will reduce expenses, energy use, CO2 emissions and long term maintenance. Motion sensors will turn on the lights only when a person is present in the room and the light will be dimmed based on the current daylight. The heating control will take into account outside temperature, wind speed and sunlight to manage the windows and shutters.
